Diy solar panels12/15/2023 ![]() When they hadn't shown up I contacted Renogy and the customer service rep was not even able to positively confirm that the last shipment would include those.Īll that said. ![]() The last items to trickle in were the MMF/FFM connectors. The Renogy account page offered absolutely no information about what shipments to expect, or when. The kit arrived from several shipping locations over a period of nearly two weeks. Likewise the order tracking was pretty nonexistent. I get the impression that the documentation is geared toward an experienced installer. The system documentation was pretty poor, and the closest thing to a system schematic is the one on the banner web page advertising the system. ![]() If you are not, at the minimum, conversant in series-parallel combinations and circuit protection you should think twice about a self-install. If it were not for this, I would have struggled with the layout and connection. I have a background in electronics and electrical installations, and I consider myself an advanced handyman. The installation was straightforward, but here is the big caveat. It has that good-quality feel, and I have had no issues. The quality of the components seems to be good. Thus far it has not failed to fully charge the batteries. On some cloudy days (not quite raining) I have seen over 300 W, and I've seen similar performance when camped in semi-shade. Since 800 W is the rating under perfect conditions I consider 650+ to be good performance. The system works very well, and according to my battery monitor it delivers close to the 800 W rated capacity. and now have logged 3,500 miles and a dozen or so campsites. I started a cross-country trip right after the installation. Along with it I'm using the Renogy 2,000 W inverter and two 100 Ah AGM batteries in parallel. I ordered this 800W kit about two months ago to install on a my camper and installed it myself. ![]() The total power load can be divided by the power output of one panel to obtain the number of panels needed. Divide the total watt-hours by the peak sun hours in the location of installation, and multiply by a safety factor of 1.5-2, to obtain the total number of watts your panels should produce to power the air conditioner load. Multiply the power rating recorded in watts by the total number of hours of operation intended, to obtain the total watt-hours. Power will be listed in units of Watts and can be used to determine the total load resulting from running the intended AC unit. BTU is a common measuring unit for energy in AC and water heater products, however we are interested in the energy rate, or simply power. Both can be used to determine the actual power rating of the AC. Most manufacturers will publish a specification sheet of the AC unit online and will include a nameplate sticker on the AC unit's body. To determine what size solar kit is appropriate, you must first define the total load to be expected of the solar power system. With the Rover Li 60A MPPT charge controller, the kit can meet your further power needs by adding more of the same solar panels for example, a 24V system expandable up to 1600W. The 8 x 100W solar panels don't take up much roof space, but their energy can offset some large-size loads such as television, washing machine, electric stove, etc. The Premium Kit will produce an average of 3.5-4kWh of electricity per day (Based on 5 hours of direct sunlight conditions). Renogy Solar Kit comes with solar panels, charge controllers, and needed electrical wiring, fuses, and monitoring typically required for an off-grid installation, making it ideal for off-grid and mobile applications. The Renogy 800W 12V/24V Premium Kit is easy for you to install, and it is the most economical choice for the off-grid adventurer. ![]()
